What is it about excellent palliative care that improves patient quality of life when facing a serious illness? While there are clearly many answers to this question, including expert symptom management with carefully chosen and titrated medication, Dr. Podgurski feels passionately that delivery of psychologically-informed care is one key element of effective and sustainable palliative care. The focus of this talk will be on discussion of core psychological principles that Dr. Podgurski finds especially helpful clinically, for her patients and for herself.
