HSR Seminar: José Giovanni Luiggi-Hernández, PhD, MPH

September 14, 2023 - 12:00pm to 1:00pm
By Invite Only The aim of this talk is to demonstrate how mixing qualitative methodologies serves as a tool for answering various research questions regarding complex phenomena. Dr. Luiggi-Hernández will use his work on the study of hope and hopelessness in the colonized context of Puerto Rico in order to illustrate how to appropriately mix qualitative methodologies without resorting to "method slurring" or the "muddling of methods." By mixing Critical-Hermeneutic Phenomenology and Critical-Constructivist Grounded Theory, he developed a thick description of the lived experiences of hope, hopelessness, and hoping, and a grounded psychosocial theory about the development of these phenomena.
