Asian Americans are one of the fastest growing racial/ethnic groups in the United States, but they are underrepresented in precision medicine initiatives and research. This talk will challenge the various stereotypes and microaggressions that people of Asian heritage face in the US and examine how these stereotypes persist in genetic/genomic research and practice. Dr. Young will discuss her findings regarding Asian American attitudes towards and experiences of genetic counseling and genetic testing and share examples of how precision medicine can be used to improve the health of Asian Americans.
