"Rurality, Social Determinants of Health, and Medical Mistrust in Head and Neck Cancer Poulation and Associated Outcomes"

The goal of this project is to delineate the socioeconomic barriers and factors that are responsible for Head and Neck Cancer (HNC) quality of life outcomes. Barriers related to economic stability (income), built-in environment (area deprivation index), education (health literacy), social and community/community context (social support) are correlated with prevalence of medical mistrust and resulting outcomes. In this study, we hypothesize that factors such as differences in the social determinants of health (SDOH) and different demographic characteristics that contribute to medical mistrust are associated with poorer symptoms and quality of life outcomes in patients with lower incomes, higher ADI, lower health literacy and little to no social support.

"Characterizing Dermatological Conditions and Social Determinants of Health Associated with Pediatric Emergency Department Visits"

Pediatric patients encountering barriers to dermatological care tend to present to the Emergency Department (ED) when their conditions become severe. Patients with more severe conditions demonstrate higher mortality rates and diminished treatment efficacy. This study aims to characterize the most prevalent dermatological conditions observed in the pediatric ED cohort and identify social determinants of health associated with ED visits and subsequent admission outcomes.

"'Don't Trust the Beauty:' What Social Media Analyses Can Tell Us About Ghanaian Women's Concerns During Pregnancy"

Most studies investigating the utilization of social media during pregnancy have focused on high-income countries despite the surge in internet access and social media utilization globally. This talk will discuss how pregnant women in Ghana, West Africa, utilize Facebook to inform decision-making on their most salient pregnancy concerns.

"Exploring the Unifying Factors Associated with Lichen Planus"

Although various factors are associated with the development of cutaneous lichen planus, there is no unifying cause. This study focuses on a retrospective chart review performed on patients with clinically and biopsy proven cutaneous lichen planus to assess whether there are unifying factors associated with the development of cLP.
