There are increasing calls to reduce polypharmacy in older adults by deprescribing inappropriate medications. However, it is not always clear which deprescribing targets should be prioritized. By highlighting research on the pharmacoepidemiology of inappropriate medication use, patients' stated preferences about deprescribing, and comparative effectiveness work leveraging real-world evidence, this talk will highlight the types of data that are needed to better select and target deprescribing initiatives.
