The Division of General Internal Medicine (DGIM) in the Department of Medicine (DOM) at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking applicants for a full time, open-rank position at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level. Ideal candidates will have a PhD in biostatistics, statistics, or a related field. Additionally, strong communication skills and at least two years of collaborative experience either as a post doc or faculty are preferred. Applicants with expertise in clinical trials, electronic health records, systematic reviews and meta-analysis, and other areas related to biomedical and health services research are encouraged to apply. The faculty position will have a primary appointment in the Department of Medicine and will be a core faculty of the Center for Research on Health Care (CRHC) and the Institute for Clinical Research Education (ICRE). Additionally, opportunity exists for a secondary appointment in the Department of Biostatistics in the Graduate School of Public Health. The successful candidate will collaborate with fellow DOM investigators in the following areas: study design on grant proposals, mentorship of trainees and junior faculty, teaching graduate students in the ICRE, and supervising and mentoring masters-level biostatisticians within the CRHC Data Center. Additionally, development of independent research topics and grants is encouraged.

The University of Pittsburgh Center for Research on Health Care (CRHC) brings together investigators from throughout the health sciences to conduct innovative, high-impact research in the areas of health services and clinical research. CRHC faculty have expertise across broad subject areas in health services and epidemiology research, as well as in biostatistics, clinical trials, and qualitative and implementation research. The CRHC (1) provides a supportive forum where ideas can be transformed into projects; (2) assembles multidisciplinary research teams capable of conducting high quality studies in health services research; (3) promotes a broad-based research agenda in the biomedical sciences; and (4) encourages collaborative relationships among departments and schools.

The CRHC is housed within the Department of Medicine, whose basic scientists, clinical researchers, and clinicians are making cutting-edge research discoveries and applying them to positively impact the world’s healthcare. With 665 faculty, DOM is the largest department within the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Its NIH funding level is ranked in the top 10 nationally among other Departments of Internal Medicine. The medical school’s NIH funding level ranks fifth in the nation.

The CRHC Data Center was developed to support the conduct of high-quality clinical and translational research at the University of Pittsburgh. The Data Center has cores devoted to statistical analysis, data management and information sciences, and qualitative analysis. The Center for Clinical Trials & Data Coordination, the clinical trials arm of the Data Center, guides RCTs from conception to closeout, employing a web-based trial management system that seamlessly integrates electronic data capture, eligibility & randomization, drug & external data tracking, safety reporting, outcome adjudication, data & safety monitoring, statistical analysis & reporting, data sharing, and regulatory compliance.

The Institute for Clinical Research Education is the home for the University of Pittsburgh's premier clinical and translational research training programs as well as the home to the Workforce Development Core, Team Science, KL2, and TL1 of the Clinical and Translational Science Institute. The ICRE offers 7 degree programs and 12 career development programs. It trains graduate students (MS and PhD), medical students, residents, fellows, and faculty and offers more than 50 different courses that span the translational continuum.
