Dr. Yael Schenker Publishes on Polypharmacy in JGIM

Dr. Yael Schenker, Director of Palliative Care Research within the Section of Pallative Care and Medical Ethics, recently published in the Journal of General Internal Medicine, in which she examined associations between polypharmacy, symptom burden, and quality of life in a unique population of patients with advanced, life-limiting illness.

Among the findings of the study, Dr. Schenker and her team concluded that "among adults with advanced illness, taking more medications is associated with higher symptom burden and lower [quality of life]. Attention to medication-related symptoms and shared decision-making regarding deprescribing are warranted in this setting."
