Persons undergoing dialysis treatment often use opioids for pain management. However, caution is warranted since these patients ar more susceptible to opioid-related adverse events. Using rich Medicare data from the United States Renal Data System, this study examines whether Mandatory Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs can reduce prescription opioid misuse among a population that is especially vulnerable to negative opioid-related health effects.
