Kimberly Hieftje, PhD, is a research scientist and founder/director of the play4REAL XR Lab at the Yale School of Medicine, which focuses on the development, evaluation, and implementation of game-based health interventions and interventions using extended reality (virtual, augmented, and mixed reality) technology. For the past twelve years, Dr. Hieftje has taken the role of principal investigator and co-investigator on several NIH, non-profit, and industry-funded game intervention projects for youth and young adults. This research talk will focus on 1) an introduction to the use of XR in health and medicine, 2) current state of XR research in the field, and 3) examples of two XR applications developed in our lab focused on behavior change in adolescents.
