Drug shortags are a persistent global health issue which increased during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite differerences in how medical insurance is provided, prescription drug coverage in Canada is similar to that in the US. However, the USE and Canada take different policy approaches in responding to drug shortages. This talk will present work by our team and the University of Toronto, which compared the incidence of national drug shortages in the US and Canada. As North America transitions out of the public health emergency, but drug shortages continue, comparing shortages in Canada and the US can inform policies to strengthen the future of these shared supply chains.
