Sepsis is a common and deadly disease that is gaining increasing attention from health policy makers. The most prominent national sepsis health policy is Medicare's SEP-1 measure, which requires hospitals to report their compliance with a bundle of time-sensitive treatments for patients with severe forms of sepsis. However, the real-world impact of measures like SEP-1 remains uncertain. In this presentation I will review published and ongoing work that seeks to understand the effects of the SEP-1 measure on patients, clinicians, and hospitals.
