This presentation will describe disparities in communication for patients with serious illness. First, Dr. Piscitello will discuss disparities that exist in the use of goals of care conversations between clinicians and patients or surrogates in both urban and rural settings and the methodologies involved in assessing these disparities. Then, she will describe the need to improve these disparities and outline a path to pursue this work.
