Access to licit cannabis is proliferating throughout the US, though its effects on mental health remain poorly understood. Using quasi-experimental methods and data on cannabis dispensary locations and openings, self-reported mental health, and hospitalizations in Ohio and Pennsylvania, Dr. Drake examines the relationship between geographic access to medical cannabis dispensaries and mental health outcomes. Dr. Drake has found that medical cannabis dispensary access affects increase in self-reported mental health days and depression-related hospitalizations.
