Women and Racial and Ethnic Minority Individuals Among Reviewers and Awardees for Intramural Research Funding in the Veterans Health Administration

Underrepresentation of women and racial and ethnic minority individuals among health services research investigators and reviewers has been widely reported. The objectives of   our research were to describe the gender and racial and ethnic makeup of study sections and awardees from VHA review cycles March 2018-March 2020, and explore the associations between the gender and racial and ethnic diversity of study sections and awardees who were women and racial and ethnic minority individuals.

Improving Suicide Prevention for Women Veterans: Recommendations from VHA Suicide Prevention Coordinators

Women are a minority veteran subpopulation experiencing elevated suicide risk and facing distint challenges in   accessing Veterans Health Administration (VHA) care. The aim of  this qualitative study was to understand where VHA   Suicide Prevention Coordinators, clinicians working exclusively with a higher risk veteran population, see differences   in the care needs and preferences of women with suicide risk, and where they recommend changes be made at both   the cultural and structural level.

Engaging Family Supporters of Veterans with Diabetes to Improve Patient Activation, Behavioral, and Clinical Outcomes: A Randomized Trial

Most adults with diabetes have family or friends who are involved in their medical and self-care ('family supporters'). However, health care teams lack structured and feasible approaches to effectively engage family supporters in adults' diabetes care. We conducted an RCT of the CO-IMPACT dyadic supporter-patient intervention, aimed at improving patient activation, self-management and physiological outcomes for adults with diabetes.
