Associate Director, VAPHS Center for Health Equity Research & Promotion

The Center for Health Equity Research and Promotion (CHERP) is seeking an Associate Director for the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System (VAPHS) site. CHERP is a national VA HSR&D Center of Innovation co-located at VAPHS in Pittsburgh, PA and the Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA and affiliated with the University of Pittsburgh and University of Pennsylvania.
 
CHERP’s mission is to advance the quality and equity of health and health care for Veterans through health services research, research training and mentoring, service, partnerships, and stakeholder engagement. CHERP’s primary research focus is on improving the quality and equity of health and health care for marginalized Veteran populations, including racial and ethnic minorities, women, and LGBTQ and homeless individuals, among others. Our secondary research focus is on improving the quality, safety, and value of clinical therapeutics (i.e., medications, devices, and procedures) in VHA.
 
The CHERP Associate Director at VAPHS will be a key member of the local and cross-site leadership teams, provide scientific and administrative leadership of the Center, mentor post-doctoral fellows and junior investigators, facilitate partnered research, grow collaborations with academic affiliates and community organizations, and respond to special projects and inquiries from VA Central Office and operational partners, while advancing an independent VA research program. The Associate Director will be required to maintain a minimum of 5/8 (0.625 FTE) VA appointment.
 
Potential candidates are US citizens with the following qualifications: (1) MD/PhD/PharmD or equivalent degree in a health services research related field; (2) a track record of successful, independent, federally-funded health services research; (3) a strong background in mentoring trainees and early career investigators; (4) demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, collaborative, and administrative skills; and (5) eligibility for an academic appointment as Associate Professor or higher at the University of Pittsburgh. Investigators with VA research expertise in areas aligned with our primary (health equity) and/or secondary (clinical therapeutics) research foci are preferred. Candidates must be able to work cooperatively with a diverse group of professionals and candidates from backgrounds underrepresented in the field of health services research are strongly encouraged to apply. Substantial protected support will be provided for this administrative and leadership position. Salary and other compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
